For Kyler's 8th Birthday

We celebrated on ice
at the indoor rink,
you fearless, all grace,
tumble and rush.

When the skates came off
your gifts were divided
like war spoils,
this for Mom's house,
these for Dad's.

But always,
I am here if you need me,
keeping the days,
soaking up memories
like water for a dry sponge.

Because you are well-loved,
I forgive everyone,
everything.
