The Continuing Saga of Prosperous Snow |
Mom and I went to a Farmers' Market this afternoon. It's held on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Boulder Highway. It's held in the parking lot of the old Roadhouse. Anyway, today was cooler and the drive to Henderson was nice. I took Boulder Highway rather then I95 because 95 was out of the way. I would have had to turn onto Sunset and go to Boulder Highway anyway. We bought avocados, potatoes, oranges, and asparagus. As I was buying the items, I thought about Grandpa Newland and his garden. Every year Grandpa would plant a vegetable garden. He planted potatoes, squash, watermelon, corn, green beans, onions, and tomatoes. Grandpa never planted asparagus. I don't know why, perhaps it was because he didn't asparagus, I don't know. I just know he didn't plant that vegetable. We'll fry the potatoes, it's been a while since we had fried potatoes. Yes, I know baked potatoes are better for a person then fried potatoes, but I like fried potatoes. At 62, I think I can handle a little bit of fried food without calling the food police. My grandparents eat almost anything they wanted without any problems. The only thing I remember Grandma Newland being careful about was salt. Grandma never ate salt and I normally don't eat a lot of salt. |
