Love is precious, but it's also difficult, and it has it moments of insanity. |
Most people think that holidays are the time of family celebrations, but for some... This poem is a reminder that there are those who grieve during holidays, and others who are distraught because they do not have the family that television and Hallmark portray. These lines are for them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Unfestive Holiday Our society abhors unkindness, yet holidays are acid rain. Hearts are tortured viciously by a month of valentines when loving couples, arm in arm, model brand new diamond rings that tear each wounded heart. And Father’s Day is all so good if your father is your friend, but what if your only memories are the nights he beat your mom? Or what if he really rates a card, but the grave is now his home? Mother’s Day is just as painful for couples who wanted kids, and those who once gave birth to children who never call. And, of course, we must remember, you can't send gifts to Heaven. So save me from the holidays and the Walton family smiles. Please bring the plainer days when I’m not showered by such hurtful, sad festivities, and their days of soured hopes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
