The Month of Fasting has arrived

‘Idál (Justice), 1 ‘Alá (Loftiness), 167 BE – Tuesday, March 1, 2011 about 6:20 PM Pacific Time

It is Tuesday evening after sunset. The month of ‘Alá (Loftiness) has begun. There are nineteen days left in 167 BE. The nineteen-day Fast begins at dawn on March 2. Since I take medications, I am no longer required to fast from sunup to sundown. I miss fasting, I can still say the Fast Prayers, but I miss the activity of fasting.

I miss going without food from morning until night. When I was physically able to fast, I did not know how much I would miss it. Fasting was a struggle because I enjoy food and I was used to eating three meals a day. I fasted, or I attempted to fast, sometimes I failed, but I could begin again the next morning at dawn.

I did not realize what a blessing fasting was, until I could no long fast. Now I am not physically able and I realize what I missed on those days during ‘Alá that I failed. I can no longer do a great many things that I miss. Regretting a missed opportunity does not good. Regrets are scavengers drawn to the stench of dead opportunities and hopes.
