Home-cooked comfort food

What is your favorite holiday home-cooked meal? Describe it in detail.

My favorite holiday home-cooked meal depends on whether I am doing the cooking or someone else is preparing the meal. There are certain foods that I avoid cooking again. I will not cook a turkey; however, I will go to someone else's house and eat a turkey that person has cooked. The holiday items that I like and will prepare myself are dressing, a game hen, cranberry sauce, black eyed peas, fruit salad, green salad, cake, and whole bean coffee.

My favorite home-cooked meal (which I can cook myself) consist of black eye peas, cranberry sauce, whole bean coffee, chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, and a Cornish game hen. I begin the day before by washing the black eyed peas and then letting them soak overnight in the slow cooker. The next morning, I turn on the slow cooker, then I put in a ham bone and jalapeƱo peppers. While the black eyed peas are cooking I grind the coffee beans and begin brewing the coffee. After that I fix the cranberry sauce and dressing. I then mix the cake and put it in the microwave for about nine minutes. Once those are finished, I stuff the the Cornish hen with either mushroom or fruit and put it in the microwave to cook. While the bird is in the microwave, I frost the cake. I do not put bread stuffing in the hen.

My biggest problem when it comes to cooking is that I cannot cook for just one person and it does not matter if it is a holiday or not. Therefor, I usually end up having an intimate dinner for two, three, or four people by myself. This is probably the reason I end up going out to eat on a holiday because it is less fattening then an intimate dinner for two. I enjoy cooking. I am a creative cook. I cook enough food to feed three or four people.

Food for thought: My doctor told me to stop having intimate dinners for four; unless there are three other people. - Orson Welles
