Mothers since Eve
do not raise their sons to be killers.
But we are a destructive people,
and Cain is still killing Able.
Yet, somewhere, east of Eden,
we grow tulips,
read "Good Night Moon", for the hundredth time,
and bear witness
to the light
left in the world.
