Awareness

We are land infidels.
Struggle,
for shelter
for power,
breathe unconsciously,
spend our energies
hardened against
the promise
of our better angels.

Our cousins, cetaceans
thrive
in a watery, aquamarine world
unshocked by bombs
resilient
aware of breath
coming up
for air.
