A voice out of history
The May 13, 2013 prompt for "Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum is
“If you could speak to anyone alive or dead throughout history who would you chose and why?”

History speaks to us
through the spectral voices
of poet and lover,
of artist and writer,
all overshadowed by the shouting of the victors
who write the history book.

I would speak of a woman
among the defeated
on the day her city was conquered by...
whoever conquered it.

I would speak to a woman
on the day someone freed her
from her servitude.

It is the women
among the defeated of history
that need a voice
because history is written
by conquering males.

Thought of the Day: “Half of writing history is hiding the truth” - Joss Whedon
