Music That Resonates, Hemingway & Ignorance Is Bliss?
Today's blogs.... Welcome August!

Welcome To My Reality – Week Thirty – Two

1. Tell us about a time in your life where a songs lyrics (all or even just the chorus) truly resonated so deeply that you could have written them. Include the actual song title, lyrics and artist information.

As I have gotten older I find myself listening to more contemporary Christian music - not gospel. Casting Crowns and Mercy Me are two of my favourite groups for the music and the profound lyrics. I have included only two here by Casting Crowns. I feel uplifted by these songs and glad I am a Believer. I would not say I could have written them but they resonate and bring tears to my eyes.

"While You Were Sleeping"

Oh little town of Bethlehem
Looks like another silent night
Above your deep and dreamless sleep
A giant star lights up the sky
And while you're lying in the dark
There shines an everlasting light
For the King has left His throne
And is sleeping in a manger tonight

Oh Bethlehem, what you have missed while you were sleeping
For God became a man
And stepped into your world today
Oh Bethlehem, you will go down in history
As a city with no room for its King
While you were sleeping
While you were sleeping

Oh little town of Jerusalem
Looks like another silent night
The Father gave His only Son
The Way, the Truth, the Life had come
But there was no room for Him in the world He came to save

Jerusalem, what you have missed while you were sleeping
The Savior of the world is dying on your cross today
Jerusalem, you will go down in history
As a city with no room for its King
While you were sleeping
While you were sleeping

United States of America
Looks like another silent night
As we're sung to sleep by philosophies
That save the trees and kill the children
And while we're lying in the dark
There's a shout heard 'cross the eastern sky
For the Bridegroom has returned
And has carried His bride away in the night

America, what will we miss while we are sleeping
Will Jesus come again
And leave us slumbering where we lay
America, will we go down in history
As a nation with no room for its King
Will we be sleeping
Will we be sleeping

United States of America
Looks like another silent night

This is actually a Christmas song but it speaks to me. I do not want to sleep through these important moments.

"Does Anybody Hear Her"

She is running
A hundred miles an hour in the wrong direction
She is trying
But the canyon's ever widening
In the depths of her cold heart
So she sets out on another misadventure just to find
She's another two years older
And she's three more steps behind

Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see?
Or does anybody even knows she's going down today
Under the shadow of our steeple
With all the lost and lonely people
Searching for the hope that's tucked away in you and me
Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see?

She is yearning
For shelter and affection
That she never found at home
She is searching
For a hero to ride in
To ride in and save the day
And in walks her prince charming
And he knows just what to say
Momentary lapse of reason
And she gives herself away

If judgement looms under every steeple
If lofty glances from lofty people
Can't see past her scarlet letter
And we never even met her

He is running
A hundred miles an hour in the wrong direction

This one gets me because I don't want to be the person who walks away. I want to be the person who makes the choice to help the hurting person. It is too easy to walk away, but we are not meant to if we are to be God's hands and feet here on earth.

Blog City – DAY 151

In Writer's Digest, I read about Ernest Hemingway having a lot to say about writing. He has been well quoted since his birth 115 years ago.
Prompt: Pick one of Papa's quotes and create your blog entry with that as your focal point. This can go in many directions depending on your choice of quote. If you have a favorite Hemingway book, please share that too!

"Do not worry. You have always written before and you will write now."

I like this quote as I find it helps to shake off those initial nerves that come when a new writing assignment crops up. Blogging and writing each day also helps me remember that quote and know I can do it. The other part of it, is knowing that some days may be filled with jewels and gems, other days are sludge and mud. You never know what kind of day it may be, but you must show up to find out.

30 Day Blogging Challenge – Unofficial Month - August

August 1, 2014 Prompt: It has often been said, “Ignorance is bliss,” and “What you don’t know won’t hurt you.” Do you agree with these statements? Why or why not?

I am going with Charlie’s prompt because, hey, it works for me. I would say that I would agree, but only to a certain point. Many of us merrily go along without knowing any better. I am sure we are kept in the dark about many things. I find I do not like watching the news - it is depressing. Not knowing about things lets me not worry about them, but sometimes that not knowing doesn't give me a heads up and that can hurt me. This whole outbreak of Ebola is something to know about so that I can be aware, though not hyper-aware.

With "What you don't know won't hurt you." can often come back to bite you when the person does find out. I am thinking of people using this excuse as they jump into an affair or one night stand, but what if you pick up a venereal disease or Aids and pass it on to your spouse. What if your spouse is pregnant, you could be passing things on to your unborn child. Then there is the emotional upheaval that comes when the affair or moment of unfaithfulness is uncovered. The betrayal, the breakdown of trust, the fallout can devastate families. Ignorance in these cases are not bliss, particularly when the spouse is the last to know.

As an adult, I know I need to be more aware so I can be more responsible. As a child, ignorance can be bliss, but with maturity comes the need to be aware and make known. With children, we still need to give them knowledge so that as they begin to gain their independence they can make the right choices for them and avoid situations that could be unsafe (like talking to strangers). This needs to be done to teach without scaring them to the issues.
