Trees Stand Watch

Today's blog...

I have done many blog prompts over the past several weeks and then not got around to posting them... I really have to stop doing that!

Prompt:
From a book description: “In the belief of the Gond tribe [in India], the lives of humans and trees are closely entwined. Trees contain the cosmos; when night falls, the spirits they nurture glimmer into life.”

Have you ever watched the trees at night, and can you imagine if they have a night life and which secrets they are hiding?

Rising up into the night sky
A calm stillness permeates the forest
Even the animals have stilled their scurrying.
Lightening flashes, imprinting the sky
Darkness gathers as the thunder rumbles and builds
The trees stand like sentinels
Ever watchful and protective
There branches begin to wave
Moving in a dance with the wind
There leaves rustle a whispered prayer of thanks
As the rain begins to wash down in torrents
Cleansing the encrusted dirt and grim
Leaving the dusty dry spell a memory.
