What Soul Is This?
Naked, tied
Unjustified.
Barely breathing
Left for dead.

Into the grey of morning's dawn.
Heavy clouds do fill the sky.
A man alone, bound and left
Is he alive?
Or has his soul gone.

He's chained, but to what I ask?
The ghost of a ship
slipped past the morning's mist
Or dashed against the rocks to shatter
Leaving a cargo of emptiness
And one lone soul.

I approach and see
perfect features marred by demands
And harsh labour.
Unbind him, I say,
And carry his lifeless limbs
Back up to the cottage...
We'll see if food and drink will revive
The soul that was left inside.
