Blank Canvas

I look at the virgin page,
a pristine snowfield
unmarred
by the footsteps of my thoughts.

This is my blank canvas
waiting to fulfill its purpose;
waiting for my thoughts
to walk across it
leaving behind
the lines,
stanzas,
metaphors,
and similes
playing across the video
of my mind.

Halloween Party Potion

A clove of garlic,
thirteen pinches of bitter herbs
dried and crushed
by the abrasive fingers
of fear's skeletal hand.

Toss the ingredients
into an iron cauldron
with one cup of Burgundy1
and two cups of Bull's Blood2 wine.

Let the potion simmer
for thirteen hours
adding more wine as needed.

While the ingredients are simmering
invite thirteen people
to your Halloween party
held in the Tower of Terror.

When the potion is done
pour it into a punch bowl
with a gold spider-shaped brooch
laying on the bottom of the bowl
and then add rainbow sherbet.

When the guest arrive
give them a parchment
explaining the rules
to Evade the Vampire
(you in a Count or Countess Dracula costume),
while your guest read the rules
you promote
your special Halloween Potion Punch.
