Women wear scars
sometime concealed beneath
layers of heavy makeup
attempting to hide them from themselves
and others.

Women wear scars
sometimes hidden behind veils
so that only their
deer in the headlight eyes
are visible to the world.

Women wear scars
sometimes displayed
for all the world to see
so that other women
know they are not alone.
