Creation Saturday Poem Number 2

In the cradle of humanity
proof of our unity is found
in the bones of our ancestor
buried in Africa's1 sacred ground.

Survival is still a struggle
for the human race
as we stretch our minds and souls
toward interstellar space.

Can we overcome envy
or any
of the seven deadly sins
before we contaminate our planet
with a holocaust of hate.

I watch the headlines
I hear partisan politicians preaching
fake news to their constituents.

Enmity is a vampire
hidden in the attic of the mind
sucking the blood
of love and intimacy
from the spirit of human kind.

In order to drive out this demon
we must take up the garlic of search
and question the motives
of all who build
the walls of intolerance
to segregate
humanity into them and us.

God has given us minds and souls
to search for truth independently
persistence will eventually
lead us to the angel of reality.

Follow the example
of the eagle and the fox
who seek their prey
for themselves and their families
without depending
on another predator.
