Welcome to Whatsit's Wild World.

Sometimes I think we're all tightrope walkers suspended on a wire two thousand feet in the air, and so long as we never look down we're okay, but some of us lose momentum and look down for a second and are never quite the same again: we know.

1. I had to have a root canal Monday. I am going to be 50 years old in a minute and this was the first thing that was ever wrong with my teeth. I couldn't believe it. I thought I was on the home stretch as far as my teeth were concerned. Having a root canal wasn't as bad as I thought it would be but I was still overjoyed for it to be over.

2. I have bought my dogs some new dog food. I have been buying them Beneful and then wondering why they made such a mess every time they ate. I had come to the conclusion that I had some messy dogs and kept having to sweep up after them. My oldest daughter finally figured out that Jack, at least, was picking out the pieces he didn''t like and laying them on the floor. I wouldn't put it past some of the rest of them to be doing the same thing. So now I have beat them at their own game: this time I bought One, which appears to be all the same thing. Jack and Wimzy have already tasted it and they seem to like it, and silly old Mr. Jack isn't dropping any on the floor. Dern. Beckham and Fluff have yet to try it. We will see.

3. I went to the store this morning and bought some of my favorite ice cream: Denali Extreme Maximum Fudge Moose Tracks. Yes! I ate some for lunch as soon as I got home. I may hide the rest under the frozen vegetables before my family comes home.

4. My son Matt is on the High School Soccer Team. Yesterday they won the State Championship. Yay! I am proud of them. This is in contrast to the football team who didn't win one game this year. Last year I think they won exactly one: the first one.

5. I ordered an over the door ironing board. I have yet to take it out of the box because of being so busy, but evidently you just pull the ironing board down when you want to iron and then push it back up when you are through. I'm hoping this will encourage me to iron, since the worst part is having to go get the ironing board and try to figure out where to set it up. For some reason this house we live in was not blessed with outlets. Which is weird because a builder built it for himself, but he left electrical outlets out of his figuring. My grandfather build a house for my grandmother when I was little. As an electrician himself, he put in plenty of outlets all over the house. I'm kind of surprised this guy didn't build this house that way. However, I have a door that is near an unused outlet, so I am hoping this will encourage me to iron. I realize that I may be operating on wishful thinking here, but it's worth a try.

1. Anna Claire had her Treble Song performance today. Treble Song is an honor choir that girls from all over Mississippi had to try out for. Their choir director was from Bosnia and she wore a dress with piano keys all around the bottom. It was quite attractive, actually! AC has been in Treble Song a couple of years before this one, and Emily was in it before that. This is the last year any of our kids will be in it, since AC is going to graduate this year. It seems like the end of an era. AC's friend Cheryl and her mom and sister and stepfather came to the performance and we all went to the Broad Street Bakery afterward and had something nice and decadent.

2. Matt is in show choir. The choir director at the high school found out she could make a little more money by starting a show choir, so now we have a show choir, and my kid is in it. I am all for a teacher making more money doing whatever, even a little bit. This is the 4th year we have had a show choir and the 2nd year Matt has been in it. They have started going all over creation - well, all over Mississippi anyway - to competitions, and doing a great job. They came in first place at the one they went to today. It was two hours off, at Pearl River Community College, and he just got home not long ago, at 11:30 PM. Matt enjoys being in show choir and I am personally hoping that he will get a show choir scholarship to college when that time comes.

3. I bought some new dishes on Facebook. My dishes I got for my wedding have been broken over the years and I only have four left. Every time my mother has bought new dishes I have gradually inherited the ones she didn't want, which has made for quite the hodge-podge, dishwise. Also, I'm not sure what could have happened to all my glasses. We have gotten by on random miscellaneous glasses and plastic cups brought home from restaurants and caught at parades and things like that. No more! No more I tell you! I now am the proud owner of a set of dishes! And I went to Walmart and bought some actual glasses. I may have to start inviting people over for supper. When I get a dining room table I like rather than the random free one my husband came home with that doesn't even have room to seat the people in the family, much less guests.

4. Fluff is much better! (See last entry) She just has a little arthritis. No wonder, since she is almost 10 years old.

5. I'm sleepy as all get-out. Good night.
