Soundtrack Of My Life

February 14, 2020
Today is Valentine's Day. I was thinking I should do some kind of lovely dovey song, but truth be told I am not a big fan of Valentine's Day these days. So I think I will stick with the song I had picked ahead of time: You Don't Own Me. A feminist kicker. I have also got the original version with Lesly Gore (1963) and I found a more recent version I quite like by Grace. The original is older than I am.

You Don't Own Me - Lesley Gore 1963

A newer version by Grace.

Lyrics of the Leslie Gore version:
You don't know me, I'm not just one of your little toys
You don't own me, don't say I can't play with other boys
And don't tell me what to do, don't tell me what to say
Please when I go out with you, don't put me on display
Because you don't know me, don't try to shame me in any way
You don't own me, don't tie me down 'cause I never stay
And don't tell me what to say, don't tell me what to do
Just let me be myself, that's all I ask from you
I'm young and I like to be young
I'm free and I like to be free
To live my life the way I want
To say and do whatever I please
You don't know me, I'm not just one of your little toys
You don't own me, don't say I can't play with other boys
And don't tell me what to do, don't tell me what to say
Please when I go out with you, don't put me on display
I'm young and I like to be young
I'm free and I like to be free
To live my life the way I want
To say and do whatever I please
