Home Sweet Home Prompt # 1 May, 1st. '22 — A bit about the history of your town/area.
Every place has a history. Some towns were founded to support gold rushes, others were close to oceans.
What's the History of where you live? What was the early industry that made your town the place to be? Who founded your town and when?

Where I Live: I live in Athens. No, not Athens Greece, or Athens Georgia, or any of the other eleven cities named Athens which litter the eastern United States. I live in Athens, Texas. I've lived in Texas my entire life and have lived in or near Athens for the last twenty-two years. What's the draw? I initially moved here to get away from a failed marriage and everything that came along with it. I left behind my parents and everyone I had known up to that point.

I initially moved to the Athens Texas area because it had a quiet country atmosphere, all the residents were friendly, and there are plenty of lakes, rivers, woodlands, and nature around. I stayed because I met my soulmate, who had also come to the area to leave behind a different life. But I should get back to the point at hand and answer the blog prompt properly rather than rambling on about things not in the prompt.

On April 7 of this year, I blogged about the history of Athens Texas (see "BCOF Day 3337 - A History for blog post) in my personal blog, "Dissociated Thoughts responding to a "Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum prompt. But, to keep to the rules of this challenge, here are some of the highlights about the history of Athens Texas.

Earliest Days: The earliest settlers got here early in 1850. Matthew Cartwright donated 160 acres of his land for a county seat, and the commissioners had Samuel Huffer survey the streets, the city square, and 112 lots that would become the beginnings of Athens. The district court first met under an oak in the square. Later, they built first courthouse, a sixty-five-dollar log building that took all of a month to build. A jail made out of logs was built in 1856 next to the courthouse. Hoping that the town would become a cultural center, a lady by the name of Dulcina A. Holland suggested the name Athens. The name stuck and by 1855, Athens had a store, a Masonic lodge, and a Presbyterian church. And Athens continued to grow. Eventually, Athens also had a pottery plant, a brick plant, a cotton gin, a cottonseed oil mill, a compress, a newspaper, the arrival of the railroads, a bank, and a telephone company. By 1901, the town was hopping. Eighty years later, the town businesses included three banks, two savings and loans, oil, gas, and clay production, and manufacturers of televisions, clothing, bricks, steel buildings, mobile homes, medical supplies, boats, and bridge bearing pads. Where corn, cotton, tomatoes, and black-eyed peas were once raised in the area, agricultural revenue in the 1980s came principally from livestock, hay, and nurseries. The town had forty-two churches, a radio station, a newspaper, and a library.

I couldn't find what the original interest was with Athens. Perhaps it was the location, being so close to both the Trinity and Neches rivers, as well as a stop on the rail line. None of the histories actually saw though.

Fun Facts/Tales: There are loads of stories about Athens' history.
We are purportedly the home of the hamburger, for one. A man called Uncle Fletch Davis claims to have "invented" the hamburger back in the 1880's and took it to the World's Fair in 1904.
Athens is also called "The Black-eyed Pea Capitol of the World". Lofty name, if you ask me. However, we Athens residents like to have a good time, and we have a festival each year for the black-eyed pea too.

Urban Legend History: We also have a darker supposed history in Athens though. One of those stories is that there is an underground tunnel system directly under the city. The legend is that the tunnels are in the shape of a pentagram and each of the five entrances into the tunnel system are marked by the points of the pentagram, with the courthouse being at the center of the star. Supposedly, a coven of witches created this system and imbued it with spells that keep evil and negative spirits out of the town, and others within. The tunnels are rumored to have hosted a variety of ritualistic ceremonies including the sacrifice of small animals and in some cases humans.
Then there's Fuller Park. The old park site has been shrouded with mystery ever since Mr. Fuller erected it park in 1938 after the death of his wife. Fuller Park is said to house one of the five entrances to the tunnels. There are many rumors of this park from the Monkey Cages (yes these are real) to the grave plot in the center of the park.
And... Monkey Bridge, under which a young man was found murdered, the killer never found. The story behind Monkey Bridge is that a traveling circus was attempting to cross that bridge who knows how long ago and that something happened to startle the horses, which in turn overturned the cart carrying the monkeys. All the monkeys supposedly escaped into the surrounding woods. Crazy things are said to happen on that bridge. Whatever the real story, the legend has buried it in the past with everything else.

My Hometown: Like I said, I'm a transplant to the Athens area. The town where I grew up has some interesting history of its own. I was raised in Abbott Texas. Haven't heard of it? That's okay. Most people haven't. I mean, the highest the population ever got was 714 people - and that was in 1914. But it still has its own claims to fame so to speak. Abbott is where Willie Nelson also grew up. He still owns property there too. In fact, he now owns the Methodist church that he once attended as a kid. Oh, and Abbott is alphabetically the first town/city in Texas. *Smile*

Read it in the Sunday Papers - Write about the first major news story you remember from your childhood.

When I was a kid, the Cold War was in full swing. It was us against the USSR (or Russians, as we liked to link them all together). It was a time of rushing to see which country would make the next milestone in the Space Race and spies and espionage. Russia kicked ass in many different games in the Olympics more often than not and there was always a feeling of pride when our athletes out-performed theirs. It was the time of Mary Lou Retton, Wayne Gretzky, and Roger Clemens. It was the Reagan Era in the grand old U.S of A. Sports dominated the news alongside the goings on of the Cold War.

The first major news story I remember vividly was when I was 13 years old, November 1989, the Berlin Wall finally fell. The news continued to show the clips from June 1987 when Ronald Reagan was quoted saying, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall." Then-President Ronald Reagan stood before hundreds of cameras in West Berlin and called for Mikhail Gorbachev to open the Berlin Wall, which had separated West and East Berlin since 1961. I remember images of the wall, covered in graffiti, being pulled down and the people cheering wildly.

I honestly don't think that before that, I cared much for the news. Heck, I still don't today.

In real life, my Saturday has been all about disc golf. Yeah, that's a real sport. Disc golf is like ball golf only different. Hear me out on this, we have the same basic rules and scoring system, we have out of bounds and bunkers and fairways and greens. But instead of hitting a tiny ball with an odd-shaped stick (or club if you'd rather be technical) toward a hole in the ground, our goal is to throw discs (like Frisbees only smaller) toward and ultimately into metal baskets which are stationed on/in the ground on poles. Just like ball golf has different clubs for different shots, we have different discs for different shots. We have putters, mid-ranges, and drivers. The drivers are over-stable, under-stable, or designed to go straight. Stability in the driver affects the turn of the disc in flight. Certain holes throughout the eighteen-hole course will curve left or right, so knowing which disc will go a certain direction when you throw it is very helpful in determining which disc to throw.

Since the pandemic began, interest in disc golf has been on the rise. It is one of those sports that fit in with the demands of social distancing; a way for people to get out of the house and get some fresh air and exercise. Any person can play regardless of age, ability, etc. It's a walk in the park after all. You're primarily competing against yourself anyway. There are actually people in their 70's and 80's who still play. Disc golf is generally cheap to play compared to many other sports. For instance, most of the courses are public and do not require greens fees for a person to play like ball golf courses do.

Disc golf isn't a new sport by any means. People have been playing disc golf since at least the early 1980's. However, due to the advancements in internet technology, it is being seen by wider and wider audiences. It ain't just pot smoking hippies that play anymore. We've gone professional and there are actually people who make their living throwing discs at baskets. Nowadays, bigger professional tournaments have been shown on ESPN, there are videos of tournaments and casual play galore on youtube. You can even find how-to videos online.

For some, disc golf might be just a fad that they forget about after a while. But for those of us who've been playing for a while (half my life so far), disc golf is a way of life... Just a word to the wise, if you can't handle friendly shit-talking while playing a sport, disc golf might not be for you. It's just how most of us are and we like it that way.

You've just landed the job of restaurant reviewer for the local newspaper.
Visit the other challengers' Banana Bar Fine Dining Establishments from their April 7th entries, then write a review for each of them.

Review of jondakota's McBanana Bar & Grill

Upon arrival at the McBanana Bar & Grill, I was immediately welcomed with bright colors and friendly characters from days of yore. I was transported back to my childhood. The employees were all very friendly and took my order with a smile and a "Thank You". As I waited on my order, I walked around looking at all the memorabilia from a time long gone. Then I sat down at a table and waited for one of the youths to bring me my meal and drink.

When my food came, it was hot and true to my order, a plus in my opinion. The fries were deliciously salty and mysteriously addictive. The Quarter with cheese that I ordered tasted like a flashback to the 1980's, back when the meat products were actually some kind of meat (unknown as it might be). My bun was toasted to perfection and the veggies were fresh. The apple pie I ordered for dessert was crisp and cinnamony sweet.

I give this restaurant 4 stars on the Fast Food Restaurant scale. The range of choices, freshness of the food, and friendliness of the employees all work together to make The McBanana Bar & Grill a Top 5 Fast Food Restaurant in our area. And kudos for bringing back all our favorite burger buds!

Review of QueenNormaJeanGreeneggs&vegham's Bistro Bengali

All the hype about Chef Sunita Patel is just that, hype. Chef Patel could have done amazing things with an Indian restaurant at the Banana Bar, but she didn't. It begs the question, "Is she really a chef at all?" The samosas were bland, lacking any flavor other than the oil with which they were cooked. The meat inside questionable as to its origin. The tandoori chicken had an overabundance of spices, namely the turmeric, cayenne, and ginger, which made this dish unpalatable. The butter chicken was equally a bomb, as it was dry to the point of being mummified. The rice was decent, other than the fact that I could make better rice at home and the so-called chutney was simply chopped up fig particles mixed with brown sugar, ginger, and Hing. Hoping it would be the saving grace of the meal, I was let down by the flavor of the lassi, as it turned out to just be buttermilk seasoned with curry of all things. All in all, the best part of this meal was the food fight instigated by the monkey waiters in the so-called Bistro. It was a great time, but it took me almost a week to get over the food poisoning from the meal. I'd unfortunately have to give this establishment one star - and this is only because you cannot give establishments negative stars.

My recommendation for the owner of this Bar and Fine Dining restaurant would be to find an actual chef to create your dishes. Any old monkey could have done a better job in the kitchen than Ms. Patel.

You've just been hired as head chef at Andre's Banana Bar & Fine Dining.
What changes do you make to the restaurant and menu?
Write about your experience.

Recently when I was out of the house, Ravyn took down a message for me from the crew at Andre's Banana Bar. When I arrived home, Ravyn could hardly get the message out, as she was so excited to tell me the good news. I'd been chosen for the newly created position of Head Chef for the restaurant they were changing over from a diner to fine dining.

"I can't believe it," Ravyn gushed. "We're going to make so many delicious goodies for the Bar customers!"

"I know," MJ retorted. "Think of all the sweets we'll get to taste while we're concocting new desserts!"

I look at them both, a smile turning up the corners of my mouth at the thought that both my girls could actually be on the same page about something. "Who said you two would be helping me in the kitchens?" I ask them.

MJ hung her head a little lower as she shoved her lower lip out in a pout. "But can't we just go sometimes? You know, to give you ideas and all."

"We'll see. Now, I have to start designing the new menu as well as coming up with what I am going to serve for the Grand Re-Opening meal. Would you girls like to help me with that? Let's start with the re-opening meal and go from there. Maybe we can get some ideas of what we can serve on the menu while we're thinking of what to create for it."

"Bananas Foster! That's a great dessert and it fits in with the whole Banana Bar theme and all!" MJ said, once again excited about being able to give her two cents worth.

"That sounds good." Ravyn said. "Can I choose the sides for the meals?"

"Sure, but I have to okay everything before we decide to keep them in the line-up. " I respond to Ravyn. I couldn't have asked for better help from the two of them. I mean, if I had asked, at least one of them wouldn't have been willing to help. It's a good thing I have these girls as muses! This is a lot of work for one woman to think up and create all on her own.

"Let me start with the appetizers," I say out loud to myself. "What are some good offerings for a fine dining restaurant?"

"How about some calamari? That stuff is good!" Ravyn says, eyes still focused on the side dish recipes I had saved to my Cloud.

"Good! That's one appetizer to add to the list! Maybe some duck and onion chutney canapes would be nice too." I say.

I look at my collection of recipes to find more delectable ideas. After a day of brain bending thought, I believe the girls and I found the perfect menu and starter meal.

Grand Re-Opening Meal
Appetizer: choice of two amongst fig and olive tapenade, duck and onion chutney canapes, stuffed mushrooms, salt cod croquettes, calamari, French onion & Gruyere mini boule, not-so-traditional shrimp cocktail, or blue cheese and pear tartlets
Main Dish: choose one grilled steak of lamb, Vegan lasagna, portobello steak, cabbage rolls with mushrooms and wild rice stuffing, filet mignon, maple and orange pork, or duck roulade
Sides: choose two: roasted asparagus with cheese sauce, grilled portabellas sauteed in wine, fried stuffed squash blossoms, Moroccan couscous, or a Sicilian grilled vegetable salad
Desserts: the Bar Special - Bananas Foster, Japanese mochi, vegan lemon cake made with olive oil, or sugar roasted peached with burrata and honey

These will be the starters of our menu, which will be continuously added to until such time as we have an enticing menu for even the most discerning of tastebuds. We will also have a selection of Vegan offerings for those who do not eat animal products.

The kick-off night went great! Well, other than MJ and Lil' Lime Squeeze taking their munchies out on all of the desserts, so more desserts had to be made frequently throughout the night. The crowd loved the dishes offered. The favorites ordered were the Duck Roulade with roasted asparagus and fried squash blossoms as the sides. The appetizers were all a great hit, but personally, my favorite (since as Head Chef I had to taste everything before I would allow any to leave the kitchen) was French onion and Gruyere boule. The duck and onion chutney was pretty pleasing too. As far as desserts, the mochi was most ordered, as it is difficult to find good mochi in the West. The mochi was closely followed by out House Specialty, the Bananas Foster, however. Which, if you ask MJ, was one of her favorites too.

The Re-Opening night went off so well, it landed the Banana Bar on the front page of The Daily Chattering, a global news source for everything monkey related. In the middle of the article, there was a picture of me and Andre standing in front of the Banana Bar, holding plates of our new dishes out to the camera. We did it! Now to see how long this streak lasts...

Today's blog challenge is to write: A (your choice) proverb describing these days of your own.
You may be inspired to write about folklore in addition to your proverb or instead of a proverb.
Have fun with the borrowed time.

Proverbs like:
"March borrowit from April
Three days, and they were ill:
The first was frost, the second was snaw [snow],
The third was cauld [cold] as ever’t could blaw [blow]."

and "In like a lion, out like a lamb/In like a lamb, out like a lion"

have no bearing on the weather in Texas. Here, things are a little more unpredictable. Weather forecasts seldom actually predict what is going to happen in Texas. The best (and only) way to describe Texas weather is...

"If you don't like the weather, wait five minutes."

OR

"In Texas, even the weather says, 'Hold my beer and watch this shit!'"

Things are a little more interesting where I live. We are subject to this strange phenomenon where poor weather will split and go around the city. Old tales say that a coven of witches had set up a protective circle around the town to protect the town from bad weather and evil spirits. This supposed circle is where the city built the loop that goes around the city today. Whatever is really the case (probably some magnetic thing or something to do with the elevation of the city), storms do actually split and go around the city most of the time. We have had a few tornadoes over the years, and some great (for east Texas) snowstorms, but nothing to write home to Mom about.

Did you recently make a significant purchase? (Gasoline doesn't count)
Is there something you have that has reached its end-life?
Are you planning any major purchases or changes to your lifestyle?
What's your take on this 'New Normal' we hear about?

Significant purchase? Can't say as I have. I'm a bit of a tightwad and do not like to spend money unless I have to. However, I haven't been able to stop buying little baby gifts for my soon-to-be-born granddaughter. (First time grandma here, and I'm going crazy with all the cute baby stuff I keep finding!)... oh, and the phone I had to replace because the old one fell from my pocket as I was sitting down, causing the screen to shatter when it hit the floor.

Is there something you have that has reached its end-life? Other than my body, lemme see... my shed out back, my husband's work truck, my favorite pair of Chucks...

Are you planning any major purchases or changes to your lifestyle? I like my life the way it is (other than my health, which I cannot do anything about other than take the meds the doctors tell me to take) and I don't like to spend money. However, as I will soon be a Grandma, that's going to be one very big change and a cute little package!

What's your take on this 'New Normal' we hear about? What is "normal" exactly? Your normal isn't the same as mine, nor is it the same as the next guy's or gal's. My normal is full of constant physical pain, fearing another seizure happening, and handfuls of medications when I wake and before I go to bed. My normal is working six days a week, cooking dinner at crazy hours of the night when I get home from work, fur clouds and noisy animals, writing, disc golf, and enjoying the outdoors. Yours is probably totally different.
As far as the inflation goes, it was predicted and expected. Maybe not to the extent it has grown to, but we all knew it was coming. The fear of getting sick doesn't really affect me (I'm already sick and when God calls me home, I'm ready). Things like the Covid pandemic happen. All you have to do is look back in history to see that. Smallpox, the Black Death, and so many others have historically wiped out whole civilizations. But you see, we're like roaches. There are always survivors to carry on the human race. I personally think that social media and the instant access to "news" via the internet has greatly contributed to the wide-spread fear we still see, two years after it all began.

But that's just my opinion...

So, the blog prompt is... What do you do to relax? Are you able to have a dedicated family day or day of rest in your home? Share a memory of a peaceful, restorative Sunday from your past. Then finally, tell us... What keeps you up at night?

I remember Sundays back when I was a little girl. We'd all get dressed in our nice clothes and go to church. I'd sit through Bible school learning about Jesus and the stories of the Bible, then would go into the main part of the church for services. That was my favorite part of Sundays, sitting there with all the adults, learning more about the Bible, and singing hymns. Growing up, my parents were members of the local Church of Christ, as that's the denomination my Daddy was raised in. That's why, as Daddy told me, we could only have an organ or piano to accompany our singing, unlike other churches who were allowed to have a full band if they wanted. Daddy made the main part of church services fun for me. I remember one particular time, I had brought a Goofy (of Mickey Mouse fame) puppet to church with me and Daddy had taken it away from me when he found it. But, as we were singing "Up From the Grave He Rose," Daddy pulled out the little puppet and made it dance to the hymn words. Every time we would get to the part "Up from the grave..." Daddy would make the puppet come to life and jump up. I must've loved it because the memory is still with me today, however many years later it has been.

After church, we would go either eat at a family member's house or go eat at this seafood place my mom liked (she's always loved frog legs). Sometimes, we'd visit one set of my grandparents or the other, or one of my many aunts or uncles. Sundays were a time for worship and a time for family. There was no work on Sundays, only enjoying the ones we love. Of course, we'd do something fun outdoors if the weather allowed as well. But whatever we did, we always did it as a family. My parents have always been the types to put family first, and they instilled those beliefs in me and my brother. They also taught us that family isn't only blood relatives. Close friends can also be considered family if you care about them the same.

And you asked what keeps me up at night?
Worry. Worry about my daughters who are grown and off on their own, worried if I taught them what they need to know to make it through this life. Worried about finances and my health and the rest of the members of my family. Worry that I might have another turn for the worse with my health just when I've finally gotten to the point where I find myself now. Worry that if I get sick again, I'll lose my job and our finances will worsen even more than they are. Yeah. Worry is definitely the bitch that keeps me up at night.

Your Muse and Andre have decided to collaborate. They want to write a song together.
7.) Write Their Song – This prompt may be a poetic form).

On the day of the recording of their song, Andre and MJ got together in the basement of the Banana Bar, which had been refurbished as a temporary recording studio. They had asked the basement guy to be their sound guy and had recruited Ravyn and Richard ~ Shenanigans INC.'s two musicians, Lil' Lime Squeeze and A Guavé Tortuga to sit in as the session musicians for the demo recording. Grumpy insisted on being the duo's agent and enlisted Pubby and Anon-Y-Monkey as his assistants.

Andre said to MJ and the gang, "I'm feeling froggy today."

"Oh, but you're a monkey!" answered MJ in her typical air-headed fashion.

"I know MJ. 'Feeling Froggy' is just a way of saying I'm in a really good mood. It doesn't mean I think I'm a frog!"

"Oh! Okay! Umm... Are we ready to do this?"

"Let's do it!" exclaimed Andre and they began recording their first and only song, a rock tune inspired by Primus.

After the bass intro, Andre began to sing.

Andre: "I'm a drunken monkey
I drink vodka all day long,
play shenanigans on my pals and friends
and this is my tag-along"

MJ: "I'm just one of those girls
who digs the music scene
and this drunken monkey
he's totally my caffeine."

*instrumental*

MJ: "He's feeling kinda froggy
man, I don't need a shrink
he's a vodka drinking monkey
and he needs another drink"

Andre: "Absolut, with its winter wheat
really gets the night a'rolling
and that Pincer Shanghai Strength
will start me to gamboling."

Andre: "I'm a vodka drinking monkey
and this is my drinking song
I'm a vodka drinking monkey
and my thirst is really strong"

MJ: "He's not Magilla Gorilla
he's not the infamous King Kong
he's a vodka drinking monkey
and this is his drinking song"

*instrumental*

Andre and MJ: "Come on all you monkeys
and you vodka drinkers too
join us in this drinking song
you all know what to do.

Hold your glasses high above
to toast your fellows all
then drink down that liquid renown
and keep drinking 'till last call"

Andre: "I'm a vodka drinking monkey
and this is my drinking song
I'm a vodka drinking monkey
and I'm drinking with the throng"

A solo outro played by Ravyn on the bass guitar ended the song.

"That was really good, don't ya think?" asked MJ still caught up in the excitement.

"I don't know," responded Andre, "I guess we'll just have to wait and see how people respond to it."

"Ya mon. I tink it be time fer a smoke." Lil' Lime Squeeze said as he lit up a Cheech and Chong sized doobie.

"Sweet!" exclaimed MJ, "I was starting to come down!"

"You guys go ahead," replied Andre. "I have a drink at the bar with my name on it."

Almost everyone left the basement and went up to the bar, except Ravyn. She continued to sit in the basement playing music on her bass guitar long after everyone else had left, still lost in her love for a good groove. That is, until the basement guy told her it was time she headed up. With music and more in their heads, MJ and Ravyn left the Banana Bar and headed home, satisfied with their first go at being members of a band.

Your Muse and Andre have decided to collaborate. They want to write a song together.
6.) Tell us why they decided to collaborate.

While at the Blame it on My Muse Awards Banquet, quite a few of the muses were gathered around discussing everything and nothing in particular. During the discussion, MJ discovered that Andre has quite a variety in tastes where music is concerned. So she asked Andre, "Wouldn't it be cool if some of us got together and wrote a song? Maybe even make a music video!" Weeks went by and MJ's mind went on to other things, as it is frequently wont to do. She was hence surprised when Andre approached her one night at the Banana Bar while she and I were there just chilling after a long day of creative madness and asked, "You still want to make a song together?"

"What?" MJ queried in that absentminded way she has.

"You remember? You said it would be cool for us to get together and write a song..."

"Oh yeah!" she exclaimed as the memory came back to her. "I'm still down for it. Who else will be weighing in on it?"

"So far," said Andre, "it's just me and you."

"Okay! But maybe some of the others would like to join us on this venture. Should we ask them?"

"I already have," responded Andre. "I'm waiting for the others to get back with me."

"I can't wait! I guess we need to figure out what type of song we want to write and what we want to write it about."

"Well, let's start with what we want to write it about and maybe that will help us decide what type of song to write."

"Okay. Do you have any idea where to start?" asked MJ.

Andre sighs, "I guess we could write it about something we both like."

"Oh oh! I like flowers!" she exclaimed. Andre merely grunted. MJ's happy go lucky attitude fell just a bit and she said, "Well, maybe we should find something we can both agree on. I know! We can both write lists of things we like that we might be able to make a song about and then see if anything from our lists match!"

So that's exactly what they did. It only took Andre a couple of minutes to write his Like List and then he sat for a bit waiting for MJ to finish hers as well. He waited and waited, and the waiting made him thirsty. Deciding that she would be a while, Andre swung over to the bar and grabbed a couple of glasses and a bottle of his favorite vodka. Andre poured himself a glass then carried his drink, the empty glass, and the bottle of vodka back to the table where MJ was doggedly writing her list. Andre glanced over, it looked like MJ was already writing on the back of her page.

"You want a drink?" Andre asked her.

MJ looked up from her list and noticed Andre standing there with a glass of vodka in his hand. "Sure!" she replied then quickly bent her head to continue writing. She wrote something in very large letters and circled it. "Okay, I think I'm finished now. Let's have that drink before we look at our lists."

Andre poured MJ a glass of vodka and continued to drink his own. MJ took a big swig and grimaced from the dryness of the liquor as it hit the back of her throat. "Man, this is really good," she said wistfully, then more businesslike said, "Now, let's compare our lists."

They put their lists in the middle of the table where they both could see each of them. Since there were fewer ideas on Andre's list, each one was compared to MJ's list and then crossed out if it was not also on MJ's. A few entries down, Andre had written "Vodka" scanning the back of MJ's list, Andre finally found a match, so he circled vodka. This process went on a while longer with no more matches found down most of Andre's list. Almost at the end of Andre's list, he had written, "monkeys." (Another no brainer, I know) "Oh! here's another one!" MJ excitedly said as she pointed at his entry and then pointed to the very last thing she had written on her list. "I like monkeys too!"

It turned out that there weren't any more in common between the two lists. But they had a place to start at least.

"So, vodka and monkeys," said Andre, "what can we write about vodka or monkeys that would make a good song?"

"Maybe we can write about vodka drinking monkeys?" posed MJ, her voice full of uncertainty.

"I think we have a winner!" said Andre. "Let's make a toast. To Vodka Drinking Monkeys!"

"To Vodka Drinking Monkeys!" MJ downed the rest of her vodka in one big swallow. "But hey, Andre? Can we figure out the kind of music for our song tomorrow? I'm already gonna have trouble making it home as it is. I'll probably get lost."

"Sure MJ. We'll pick up from right here tomorrow. You need me to call you a cab or anything?"

"Nope. I think I'll walk it. It's a really nice night out tonight."
