When I was young, about nine years old, there was a girl, Carla, who lived across the street from us. Her parents were as strict as my dad, if not stricter. While the group of us neighborhood children always got together and played, she was never a part of it. Her parents did not let her play with the other kids in the neighborhood. I used to go over to her house but was never allowed to go inside. We played mostly under her carport. I used to tell her made-up scary stories. Her mom told me to not tell her the scary stories anymore because they were causing her to have nightmares. About a month later, I was caught telling her another scary story and was banned from coming over anymore.

I told my older brother and sister, who didn't like Carla very much already because she had gotten them both in trouble before. We had rabbits that we kept in the backyard. With the urging of my brother and sister, I called across the street to Carla and told her to come over to see our rabbits. She sneaked over and came into our backyard. We had picked up a handful of rabbit pellets and told her they were chocolate. We acted like we were eating some as well. We put some in her hand, and she dumped them in her mouth. When she bit down she made a horrible face, spit them out, started crying, and ran across the street. Of course, we kids thought it was hilarious and started cracking up laughing. But we didn't laugh for long.

We were told on, of course, and we'll never forget our punishment.

My dad owned a restaurant, and we were used to him bringing home different food to eat. This time he brought home little red peppers. He told us they tasted just like candy, and to take a big bite to take in all of their sweetness. So we did. They were fire! We couldn't get enough to drink. It was the most awful thing I ever put into my mouth! I don't remember how long the burning lasted, but I sure remember the heat and remember jumping up on the counter and putting my mouth under the cold running water.

And the moral of that is: Treat others the way you want to be treated and do not tell lies.

(443 Words)

Prompt H1. "And the Moral of That Is" – The Duchess does seem to find a lot of morals in things, so tell us a non-fictional event that left you with a most important moral you’ll never forget. (<1000 words).

When I was young, I did well in school. My goal was to be an Archeologist or an astronomer. I also had nursing in the back of my mind. But my main goal was narrowing down to an Archeologist. Then my dad who raised me had a heart attack and had narrowing of the arteries. Back in the '70s, there wasn't a cure. He stayed sick for almost a year before dying before my fourteenth birthday.

My dad was strict. He never let me even stay the night with my mother. She was an alcoholic. But when Dad died, I went to live with my mom. Opposite of my dad, she was too lenient. I was entering the 9th grade when one day she asked me what I wanted to be. When I told her an archeologist, she busted out laughing and told me to pick something realistic. That's when my already fractured mind, snapped. I thought to myself if I can't be what I want to be, what was the use of continuing school?

That's when I turned rebellious and started partying a lot. Mom didn't care that I drank, smoked, or stayed out all night. At fourteen, she'd see me throwing up from drinking too much, and she'd just laugh about it. My stepfather was abusive, leaving me no alternative but to move out on my own at fifteen years old.

Because of leaving school at fourteen, and having to support myself at fifteen, I didn't finish high school.

When I was in my mid-twenties, I took my G.E.D. and passed with excellent scores. In my early thirties, I went to college to become a nurse.

I always regretted not finishing school and going to college when I was young. But after having a family, I rectified the situation the best I could. I may not have been able to become an archeologist, but after being a sick child, I always admired nurses and was able to complete my nursing degree with a high GPA. It was one of the proudest things I ever accomplished. It helped to make up for one of the biggest regrets I had from my younger years.

(404 words)
Prompt: G2. "Paint the White Roses Red" - Mistakes happen. Some beyond our control. Create a blog entry (or static item) telling of such a time(s) that has happened and what you did to rectify the situation (if any). (<1000 words)

My sister was an addict. She got clean when she did three years in prison. The whole time she was separated from her husband who was a bad influence. When she got out for the week before Easter weekend, she looked the best she had in a long time. She also was happier and more at peace than I had seen her in years. The family spent Easter together and it was a great time. She assured us she was going to stay away from David, her husband, and file for a divorce. David was still using and kept trying to get my sister to come back to him.

After being out for a few months and doing fabulous, we found out she started seeing David again. I received a phone call from her telling me she was moving back in with him. We got into a big fight, and I told her he would be the death of her. That if she was dumb enough to put herself back in that dangerous situation, after everything she's been through, not to bring him around us.

David was more than a user, he was an abuser. He wasn't a good person. Norma, my sister, was a beautiful person when she wasn't using. Even when she was using, she never lost her sweetness.

Norma moved back in with David. When she started distancing herself from all of the family, we knew she was using again. I was so angry with her. The big fight we got into over the phone was the last time I talked to her. She was found in bed, OD'ed. David walked out and left her to die, without calling an ambulance.

I was incredibly angry and frustrated that this happened. She was doing so well. But she put herself right back into the dragon's den. This time she didn't walk away.

Prompt: G1. “Off With Your Head!” - create a blog entry (or static item) detailing an event that made you incredibly angry/frustrated. (<1000 words)

There is a place where time stood still,
A place called Wonderment Hill.
Time is frozen for a dear friend,
Caught in a loop that won't end.
The clock's hands frozen in mid-air,
It's surreal beyond compare.
And my friend repeats the same things,
Dancing to a beat he sings.
Stuck right at 3, where time won't flee,
A moment for all to see.
Lost in time that refused to pass,
A scene through the looking glass.

Prompt: F2. "The Mad Hatter" – Forever stuck in time! Write a story (or short poem) where your character is always stuck at 3 p.m. (<1000 words or < 40 lines)

I'm running late as can be,
Why I don't even have time for tea.
But do be so kind,
Take a walk through my mind,
In the rooms I've visited so far,
While looking for the bar
Cookie bar of course!
All of a sudden, I feel a bit hoarse!

This is based on the children's song, "This Is The Song That Never Ends."
A copy of the song is below.

This is the race that never ends,
Yes, it goes 'round and 'round my friend.
These caucus races never cease,
Breathe deeply as you can, 'cause,
You'll continue running it
Forever, just because,
This is the race that never ends...

This is the song that never ends,
Yes, it goes on and on my friend.
Some people started singing it,
Not knowing what it was, and
they'll continue singing it
Forever just because,
This is the song that never ends...

Prompt: E3. "Achoo!" - Pick from your choice of the most simple/basic songs ever written and give it a little more 'spice': “Happy Birthday”, “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”, “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”, etc. (be mindful of your rating!)

Slinking in the shadows amidst the crowd,
Spinning his umbrella, and laughing loud.
Behind that grin lies a mind sharp and keen,
A cunning man who works the in-between.

Bragging about sailing Toppo's oceans,
And visits to upside-down land's so fun,
Eyes alight, a master of the unseen,
But beneath he's planning his mischief scene.

With a grin of a Cheshire cat, he gleams,
While deep, hidden deceit is what he dreams.
In the darkest realm lies a secret breed,
A cloaked figure known for his lying deeds.

Beware of the one with the sweet, sly smile,
For he'll stretch the truth further than a mile.
Dive in the rabbit hole to get away,
Do not even spare tea time for his say!

Prompt: E2. "The Cheshire Cat" – Write a short story or poem of a most cunning person with the phrase “with the grin of a Cheshire Cat” used somewhere within. (<1000 words) or (<40 lines)

The bluejay gathers straw and grass,
To build a strong, safe nest.

So, they feel truly blessed.

Now, his baby birdies have hatched,
He dashes off for food.
On the ground, he mightily scratched,
Fed them worms freshly chewed.
