With a shy smile he came towards her across the crowded dance floor. She smiled back, ready to say yes if he asked her to dance, and then felt her face freeze as he waved at someone standing behind her.
The more she felt invisible, the brighter her smile grew, until it could have cracked and shattered, leaving her to pick up pieces of it from the floor.
