We, individually, operate on different information. We, individually, are more or less brave, more or less clever, possessing more or less faith.
Survival means different things. One might fight to save his loved ones knowing he will not survive, but they might. One might run because only his own survival is important to him. One might run to is loved ones. One might fight and die so that he needn't see his loved ones suffer.
To fight or flee. Perhaps it is wisdom that helps the best of us to choose wisely when fighting leads to survival and when fleeing will save. And then, perhaps it is because the wrong ones choose rightly that we are in such a state as we are.
Is the choice to flee or fight a calculation? What are the variables? What is the equation?
Might it not be simply fate? The luck that finds a fighter to fight the fights that can be won and a coward to flee when all is lost, perhaps because of his dissertion?
