I should probably say Ender's Game spoilers before I launch. Be warned!!! Ender's Game spoilers!!!
Yes, and while Ender used that strategy in the end it wasn't the underlying strategy of the fleet... ...or was it? Perhaps the plan was always to trick a child into using it. But again, I think there are usually two strategies. Fight or flight. In a sense the hive queens avoided the outcome of a fight by hedging their bets with a flight through time. They hid a species saving colony and left the key to it in the mind of a child.
Interestingly Card and Haldeman assume that the basic human response will be to build military power to oppose the threat. Perhaps we should widen the consideration to indigenous Americans and Europeans. Did the out gunned indigenies have a strategy? Did they run until they met another sea or another tribe's border? How did fighting work when that strategy was employed?
The strategy seems doomed in all cases, but it seems to be the default.
