Being an "accomplished" woman has such a different meaning nowadays... Then: Writing, Reading, Needlework, Piano, Singing, Running a large Household, Modesty a must, speaking both English and French, and being a very decorative accessory on some gentleman's arm. And if married, producing sons. Now: "Dress for Success", a business or college degree, knowing English, and perhaps another language (Spanish or Chinese), not needing a man at all (unless recreational, or want to have one), being able to manage a business team, workout at a Gym, drop the kids off at school/after school activities - unless has a nanny, of course. Professionalism a must. The more you look at it...the costumes are different, the multi-tasking is different, the focus is different; but being able to juggle everything hasn't really changed at all. Just food for thought... |
