Letter from the editor

         Greetings, fellow writers!

Yes, that's the first thing I noticed when I arrived here three years ago. Here, we are all peers, fellow writers. We arrive with varied levels of expertise, experience, publishing credits. We arrive with varied goals for our writing, and each of us is made welcome. That's as true today as it was for me three years ago when, on a chill December evening, I found a warm welcome here.

Moving to a new community, a new neighborhood, is rough, whether you’re buying, renting, sharing, admit it – you’re a bit (or a lot) nervous. Will the neighbors be cool, will they accept you as you are, will they like you, will you have things in common, will you want to get to know them? Will you like the place itself? Do you belong?

You, fellow writers and artists, reading this newsletter today, may (or may not) be ‘Newbies’ to this global community of writers and artists, but if you come outside and share of yourself, your words prosaic or poetic, you will find yourself among peers. Whether you just started writing, whether you’ve been writing for years, or decades, you do belong. Whether your writing goal is publication, or self-expression, or validation, or some combination of these or other things, you do belong.

From my first day here, December 28, 2005, I was welcomed as a peer. I wandered about, curious, peeking in portfolios of different colors; checking out “Contests and Activities” in the “Things To Do and Read” (left side of your screen). I got caught looking and was asked my opinion on what I saw, and thanked for it – by fellow Newbies and long-time residents; by first-time writers and those published on-line and in print. And they, in return, poked about in my portfolio and gave me their honest and thoughtful opinion of what they found to read.

I’m exploring to this day, there’s always something new to read, to write, inspired and/or relaxing. Our Community keeps growing, but it’s remains the neighborhood, the gathering of peers, envisioned by our The StoryMaster and The StoryMistress .

Come join me and your fellow writers. Post your story, poem, article, book and open your portfolio to our prying eyes.

*Bullet* Post something you've written in your portfolio and enter its item number on the “Plug Page” under “Things to Do and Read” in the “Site Navigation” pulldown (left side of your screen). Here also you will find "Contests" and "Activities" to spark the Muse Creative and perhaps earn a few gift points (yes, we have our own virtual currency).

*Bullet* While you’re looking for “Things to Do and Read,” check out some of the good reading posted by fellow writers for your comments. Do take a few minutes to let the writers know what you think, and why. Chances are, they’ll stop by your port and return the ‘favor.’ It’s what peers tend to do, right?

Three years after I arrived here, I’m still unpacking some of my boxes of words and look forward to this Newsletter for tips and updated maps and new features and, of course, some great reading. I invite you to do likewise.*Thumbsup*
