A young man chooses not to skate on his paternal responsibility.
“Hello, Kyle.” Her voice quivered.

“Maria, I’m heading out—“

She pushed passed him and stepped inside. “I’m pregnant!”

On the threshold, Kyle clenched his hockey gear. “What?”

“It’s yours.”

Outside, a voice challenged his attention. “Ready, Kyle?”

Kyle dropped his skates and shouted, “Go on ahead! There’s something inside I have to take care of.”
