SWEET DESIRE

My dreams have changed since I was young,
golden sunsets charmed and songs were sung.
Now the flickering shadows of a raging fire
inside my heart are memories of sweet desire.

There was a time when love lit up my world,
when stars and moonlight found me curled
in the warm embrace of a perfect time of life;
yesterday's happiness has now turned to strife.

What's done is done, things I cannot change
even if I could, would I still want to rearrange?
I cannot live forever in a dream from the past,
for some things in life are not meant to last.

I look ahead to the days to come and see
that golden sunsets still are there for me.
I need to breathe the oceans' salty air,
renew my spirit, forget the world of care.

I long for peace and for understanding -
perhaps a life that is not so demanding.
I will walk alone with my head held high,
no one will know how many tears I cry.

My dreams have changed since I was young,
golden sunsets charmed and songs were sung.
Now the flickering shadows of a raging fire
inside my heart are memories of sweet desire.
