TEARS ON MY PILLOW

** Image ID #630580 Unavailable **

I can't remember the last time my pillow was wet with tears.
I've been keeping the hurts inside, for - oh, so many years.
I've come close a time or two, but when I lay down my head,
I am so tired that I only go to sleep, it's remembering I dread.

It may have something to do with getting old when you accept
all the things that happened that I would just as soon - forget.
It may just be that the hurt's too deep and the tears don't flow;
whatever it is, I haven't cried a lot, but they will come, I know.

I have tried to forgive the past, it was way too hard to change.
I have tried to understand it all and my life was rearranged.
I gave the burdens to God and found that I could still go on,
now when morning comes around, I wake up with a song.

Now I have to admit life does get me down some of the time,
and there are days when the sky is black, which is fine...
as long as I know "This too shall pass", I won't shed a tear
for a dry pillow is better to sleep on, year after year.

So - don't give up and don't give in -
Dry your tears and smile again.
