Summary of this Book...
Isbella (Bella) Swan moves from Arizona to Washington State to live with her father. She's 17 and trying to fit in when she spies Edward Cullen. He's dark and mysterious, with expressive eyes and a perpetual scowl on his face. What secrets is she hiding? Dare she find out?
This type of Book is good for...
Young adults. I think it will really connect with young teenage girls as Bella goes through the same range of emotions they do.
I especially liked...
How well the book was paced. It was hard to put down and very easy to read and understand.
I didn't like...
There were times when I thought the characterization of Bella was very annoying. She "whined" a lot, and I guess I prefer a "stronger" type heroine.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read the sequel to find out what happens next.
This Book made me feel...
like I accomplished something since it's very long.
The author of this Book...
is Stephenie Meyers. She's very creative and put a great spin on vampire myths that is her own. You can find out more about her at her official website: http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/
I recommend this Book because...
I like the creativity and I think a lot of young people can identify with the emotions that Bella goes through.
I don't recommend this Book because...
If anything, I thought the characterization could be stronger. Rosalie is established as "hating" Bella, but that really isn't explored. There's a lot left hanging.
Further Comments...
I thought the author did a good job establishing time setting and time. The plot starts off slow. Reading the first few chapters as Bella settles into her routine was not a beginning that grabbed me, but once she met Edward the story picked up and never let up. The characters were interesting but not as fleshed out as I thought they could be. The author's writing style is GREAT. She really pulls you with a style that's easy to read. The length of the book was long, very long. It's useful if it inspires you, as a writer, to write your own paranormal world. There are illustrations/photographs from the movie in this edition which is nice.
