What a speech Pope Francis gave in yesterday's homily / sermon!

*You can have flaws, be anxious, and even be angry, but do not forget that your life is the greatest enterprise in the world. Only you can stop it from going bust. Many appreciate you, admire you and love you. Remember that to be happy is not to have a sky without a storm, a road without accidents, work without fatigue, relationships without disappointments. To be happy is to find strength in forgiveness, hope in battles, security in the stage of fear, love in discord. It is not only to enjoy the smile, but also to reflect on the sadness. It is not only to celebrate the successes, but to learn lessons from the failures. It is not only to feel happy with the applause, but to be happy in anonymity. Being happy is not a fatality of destiny, but an achievement for those who can travel within themselves. To be happy is to stop feeling like a victim and become your destiny's author. It is to cross deserts, yet to be able to find an oasis in the depths of our soul. It is to thank God for every morning, for the miracle of life. Being happy is not being afraid of your own feelings. It's to be able to talk about you. It is having the courage to hear a "no". It is confidence in the face of criticism, even when unjustified. It is to kiss your children, pamper your parents, to live poetic moments with friends, even when they hurt us. To be happy is to let live the creature that lives in each of us, free, joyful and simple. It is to have maturity to be able to say: "I made mistakes". It is to have the courage to say "I am sorry". It is to have the sensitivity to say, "I need you". It is to have the ability to say "I love you". May your life become a garden of opportunities for happiness ... That in spring may it be a lover of joy. In winter a lover of wisdom. And when you make a mistake, start all over again. For only then will you be in love with life. You will find that to be happy is not to have a perfect life. But use the tears to irrigate tolerance. Use your losses to train patience. Use your mistakes to sculptor serenity. Use pain to plaster pleasure. Use obstacles to open windows of intelligence. Never give up .... Never give up on people who love you. Never give up on happiness, for life is an incredible show.*
(Pope Francis).
Happy New Year 💖💖

*103 passengers and only 40 meals was loaded on a Bombay to Canada flight*.

The airline had bungled, and the crew was in a fix. However, one smart flight attendant had an idea.

About 30 minutes into the flight she nervously announced :
"I don't know how this happened but we have 103 passengers and only 40 dinners."

"Anyone who is kind enough to give up his/her meal for someone else, will receive free unlimited liquor during the entire duration of the flight."

Her next announcement came two hours later :
*"If anyone wants to change their minds we still have 40 meals available*

One dark night in Dublin, a fire started inside the local chemical plant. In the blink of an eye, it exploded into massive flames. The alarm went out to all the fire departments for miles around. When the firefighters appeared on the scene, the chemical company president rushed to the fireman in charge and said, "All our secret formulas are in the vault in the center of the plant. They must be saved. I will give 50,000 pounds to the fire department that brings them out intact."

But the roaring flames held the firefighters off. Soon more fire departments had to be called in as the situation became desperate. As the firemen arrived, the president shouted out that the offer was now 100,000 pounds to the fire station who could bring out the company's secret files. But still, the firefighters could not get through.

From the distance, a lone siren was heard as another fire truck came into sight. It was the nearby rural township volunteer fire brigade, composed mainly of old men over 65. To everyone's amazement, that little run-down fire engine roared right past all the newer sleek engines that were parked outside the plant. Without even slowing down it drove straight into the middle of the inferno.
Outside, the other firemen watched as the old timers jumped off right in the middle of the fire and fought it back on all sides. It was a performance and effort never seen before. Within a short time, the old timers had extinguished the fire and had saved the secret formulas. The grateful chemical company president announced that for such a superhuman feat he was upping the reward to 200,000 pounds and walked over to personally thank each of the brave firefighters.

The local TV station caught the thank you on film and asked the chief, "What are you going to do with all that money?"

"Well," said Paddy, the 70-year-old fire chief, "the first thing we're gonna do is fix the brakes on that bloody fire truck."

During a company's annual family trip to a crocodile farm in Thailand... the eccentric Boss dared any of his employees to jump into the crocodiles infested pond... and swim to the shore. Anyone who survived the swim will be rewarded with 5 million... but if killed by the crocs...2 million will be given to the next of kin. For a long period of time no one dared take up the challenge... then suddenly a man jumped in...and swam frantically for his life towards shore pursued by the crocs..and luckily he made it unscathed. When he managed to recover his breath.. the man, who became instant millionaire, shouted asking who pushed him into the pond..... it was his wife who did it.!!! And from that day...that was how the phrase... "Behind every successful man...there's a woman"...came about !!!

About twenty years ago I read a Christian book entitled:
Thank You God.
Its basic thesis was that one should continuously thank God for the way things are right now, not petition Him for things to be different. That means thanking Him for all the terrible things that are going on in your life, not just thanking Him for the good stuff that is coming your way. And this should not just be at the verbal level. One needs to keep saying 'Thank you, God,' to oneself until one actually feels a glow of gratitude. When this happens, there are remarkable and unexpected consequences. Let me give you an example.

There was a woman featured in this book whose husband was an alcoholic. She had organized prayer meetings at her local church in which everyone had prayed to God, asking Him to stop this man from drinking. Nothing happened. Then this woman heard about 'Thank you, God'.
She thought, 'Well, nothing else has worked. Let me try this.' She started saying, 'Thank you God for making my husband an alcoholic,' and she kept on saying it until she actually began to feel gratitude inside. Shortly afterwards, her husband stopped drinking of his own accord and never touched alcohol again.

This is surrender. It's not saying, 'Excuse me God, but I know better than You, so would You please make this happen,' it's acknowledging, 'The world is the way You want it to be, and I thank You for it'.

When this happens in your life, seemingly miraculous things start happening around you. The power of your own surrender, your own gratitude, actually changes the things around you. When I first read about this, I thought, 'This is weird, but it just might work. Let me try it.' At that point in my life, I had been having problems with four or five people whom I was trying to do business with. Despite daily reminders, they were not doing things they had promised to do. I sat down and started saying 'Thank you Mr X for not doing this job. Thank you Mr Y for trying to cheat me on that last deal we did,' and so on. I did this for a couple of hours until I finally did feel a strong sense of gratitude towards these people. When their image came up in my mind, I didn't remember all the frustrations I had experienced in dealing with them. I just had an image of them in my mind towards which I felt gratitude and acceptance.

The next morning, when I went to work, all of these people were waiting for me. Usually, I had to go hunting for them in order to listen to their latest excuse. All of them were smiling, and all of them had done the jobs I had been pestering them for days to do. It was an astonishing testimonial to the power of loving acceptance.

Yesterday, I finally understood why India is doomed.

India will always remain a country that will fail to achieve its full potential. This is how Indians are. They will do everything possible to ensure India remains a third-world country.

After work, as I was leaving office, I began turning into a lane, when a car coming from the opposite side swung to the wrong side and blocked me. I indicated to him that he could easily go around me. Instead, he insisted that I get in the wrong lane, so that he could go. I realised that if I did that, I would end up blocking everyone else behind him.

I had two choices. Stand my ground or find an opportunity to get out, without inconveniencing others. I chose the latter. But as I drove off the man's attitude kept me wondering about what India really is.

The news of the arrests of five activists and lawyers had spread through the news wires. But they had been declared an enemy of the state by a Govt that is ready to spend Rs 5000 crore on publicity, but won't spend Rs 600 crores on a state drowning from floods.

In many ways, Govts will continue to promote fat cat crony capitalism, but will go out of its way to deny the weak, the poor and the ordinary their basic rights.

An editor, with houses and farms across India will write how it's important to acquire land from the poor for public causes without stopping to wonder about the irony he perpetrates through his columns.

This is the reality of India. It's an oligarchy of the rich and powerful. It's armies are like these drivers who will drive in the wrong lane and insist everyone else pay the price. He will also vote for a party that has bigotry and cowardice in its DNA.

India is doomed. If you think it isn't, I am happy to share whatever you are smoking, but I am afraid, delusion doesn't come easy to me.

A Punjabi who had
no wife,
no child,
no money,
no house and
only a blind mother
prayed fervently to God.

God was moved by his prayers and told him to make ONLY ONE request which would be granted to him.

The man said, "God, I want my mother to see my wife putting diamond bangles on my daughter's wrists inside my Mercedes parked in front of my mansion when I'm watching them *over a drink of Blue Label."*

God said to himself,
"I still have a lot to learn from these Punjabi's ..."

WHERE DO WE GO AFTER DEATH? *Heart* You won't be free, you will go with your unconscious habit patterns... That is the vehicle for the individual jiva... Your unconscious mind will stay with you... You will remain an individual because you had a physical form and will continue to have an individual astral and casual vehicle that has been formed by your habit patterns, impressions, desires, and motivations... One individual's habits are not like the habits of any other... You are different, not because of different thinking, but because of different behavior, different desires, motivations, impressions, and samskaras.... This is why it is important to be up and doing every day with satsang, service to mahatmas and meditation.... to develop spiritually liberating habit patterns...

"LOHRI" CELEBRATING THE WINTER SOLSTICE....
1. It is LOHRI in Punjab, as it coincides with the MAGHI Sangrand (Makar sankranti). As the days start to lengthen the longest winter night is behind us(winter Solstice). It is said that the days lengthen by the measure of a 'TIL' (Sesame) seed every 24 hours. It is also the sugarcane harvest time.
2. The folklore of DULLA BHATTI (Punjab's Robinhood) is stuff that is sung by children going door to door making collections. They sing......

"Sunder mundriye ho!
Tera kaun vicharaa ho!
Dullah Bhatti walla ho!
Dullhe di dhee vyayae ho!
Ser shakkar payee ho!
Kudi da laal pathaka ho!
Kudi da saalu paata ho!
Salu kaun samete!
Chacha gali dese!
Chache choori kutti! zamidara lutti!
Zamindaar sudhaye!
Bum Bum bhole aaye!
Ek bhola reh gaya!
Sipahee far ke lai gaya!
Sipahee ne mari itt!
Bhaanvey ro te bhaanvey pitt!
Sanoo de de Lohri, te teri jeeve jodi"!

3. Dulla Bhatti lived in the times of Akbar the Mughal emperor. He like Robin Hood stole from the rich and fed the poor. Dulla Bhatti would rescue girls(beauties from the SANDLI BAR region) being abducted for slave trade and end up marrying them to suitable boys and even catering for their dowry, as per custom. Two famous girls who are sung about were 'Sundri & Mundri'( therefore the start of the verse Sundar Mundariya) were married off in 1614.. That much for the folklore. But, its more to do with the change of season that sets in, the harvest and etables. Sesame/Til seeds are rich in energy and eaten as 'Rawari' Pinni and Paajiri. Phugga, Sarson Saag, Sugarcane Kheer, Moth Dal Khitchdi are some of the delicacies on the table. All food items are energy giving to help combat the cold. This is also the time to felicitate the Newly weds and new born's, to wish them happiness & Long Life !!
So HAPPY LOHRI, HAPPY MAKAR SANKRANTI AND HAPPY PONGAL TO ONE AND ALL !!

You can shed tears that they have gone
Or you can smile because they have lived.
You can close your eyes and pray they'll come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that they've left.
Your heart can be empty because you can't see them
Or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live for yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember them and only that they've gone
Or you can cherish their memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what they'd want

Smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
