Review of Insomnia
Review by gulshan kumar
Rated: E | (4.5)
The poem is written in first person. The author suffers from insomnia.
Unable to sleep because he is ever repenting for what he has become. In the first stanza, he speaks of his untruths, misdeeds that made him the person he hates. He has lost all hope. He has contradictions within him. He has a strong will but also inactive as he is constantly reminded of his misdeeds. He calls himself a fool who had great potential but everything is lost. He is unable to let bygones be bygones and begin life on a new leaf.
The poem is rhyming and interesting.

It is a beautiful poem expressing optimism of girl that she can face any attack. She has protection of her mother. But the mother is also not strong enough. The girl has courage and and will face anything even when her mother is no more. She says- "God knows my faith strong. And I keep a sharp butcher knife." It is well written- "Life is not for the meek' It is a good message.
The poem is interesting and it is pleasure to read. However, the rhyming scheme is not uniform. The rhyming pattern changes from stanza to stanza.

We seldom find poems on office routine. The poet has selected a rare topic. It is about an office employee who merely goes by routine and plays no role in planning for better functioning. He is just a file pusher and he passes his day by fixing dates with concurrence of his boss. The line - But balanced on my shoulders Is the science of pushing paper' Thus pushing paper has been converted into a fine art. In fact, the poem is a beautiful satire on bureaucratic functioning.

The author narrates his strange experience in the house his parents inherited. They shifted to the house and made certain alterations. Strange things started happening. The lights turned on and off by themselves. The water tap turned itself off without any human intervention. The author, his parents and siblings all also heard strange voices. The worst experience was the shadows and outlines of humans and animals.
One day, the author saw a large black cat in his room. The cat vanished. One day, author's sister was pushed down the stairs by an invisible force.
The entire family was perturbed by these strange incidents that clearly pointed to ghosts living in the house. Author's parents began researching ghosts on the internet. They came across a local group that they quickly called for investigation. The investigators found some interesting things. The first thing was an E.V.P. or Electronic Voice Phenomenon. As the selected section played back a voice of a man issued from the laptop’s speakers. It was saying, “This is my house, get out. Get out!”
Another strange voice came across the speakers, this time it was a young girl. “Mommy?” it asked. They saw a clip of a young girl at the foot of author's bed. The girl was dressed in Victorian clothing and had in her arms a cat, a black cat with brilliant green eyes. The author recollected having seen the same cat.
The investigators left. The author, his parents and siblings wondered how the things they experienced could be. They wondered why the persons and animals that they saw were still in the house. The only satisfaction was that the strange persons and animals like cat were not disturbing them and they would not be thrown out of the house.
The author has well narrated the story of the haunted house. It is very interesting.

It is an interesting story of internet friendship. The author met a girl online. Both share each others' problems and even suggest way out. The author when in difficult position goes on computer and chats with the girl.
The internet chat had begun in routine manner. Both just told each other their age, likings etc. Gradually, they began sharing their personal matters. .
The author was career oriented. He was working on a project, which would on its success give a boost to the author's career. He would be elevated to partnership. The author was engaged to a girl. He would devote most of his time to project and the fiancee was upset with this. She felt that the author was too occupied with career and did not care about her. Ultimately the author succeeded in his career but the fiancee broke the engagement by throwing away the engagement ring.
The author was upset and and so he went online for a chat with his internet friend. His friend was offline. So he sent her a lengthy Email.
They decide3d to meet personally in a library. They had never seen each other. So they decided to carry yellow l flowers with themselves. The author waited for his internet friend till a considerably long period. But she did not turn up. Disappointed he went home After some time, someone knocked at the door. The author feared some burglar with knife standing outside. He opened the door. His internet friend was there. She had missed his address. With difficulty, she managed to reach him. She had yellow flowers with her.
The story is well worded and is interesting from beginning till end. He has very well shown how the author could not carry on with her real life fiancee but could be so intimate on the internet.

Review of JIHAD
Review by gulshan kumar
Rated: E | (4.5)
The author has brought home the Islamic concept of Jehad with all interpretations ranging from physical violence against non Muslims to struggle for self improvement. He has elaborately quoted various verses of Koran and Islamic scholars. He has also dealt with historic angle. He has described to some length the Jehadi war in Afghanistan against Soviet troops. The author has questioned why Jehad continues even after withdrawal of soviet soldiers.
But he author has missed the point that there is Jehad in other religions also. There is concept of 'Holy War' or crusade in christianity. The Hindus also believe in 'Dharma Yudh' or Holy War. The Ramayana and Mahabharata- the Hindu epics narrate nothing but Dgarma Yuddh, which is nothing but Hindu variant of Islamic Jehad. Lord Krishna, Hindu God incarnate preaches holy war against evil, stating emphatically that Dharma (virtue, good or religion) wins over Adharma (vice, anti religion). The essay would have more value if the concept of Jehad were compared with similar concepts in other religion.
The author has done a good job. I commend his work.

It is a beautiful verse giving expression to the scenario of diverse forces- state, politicians, church joining together to give misery and tyranny to the people. Although formally democratic being majority rule, it is tyranny on the people. The poet describes it as tyranny of majority. The neo nazis collaborate with church. :The combined forces of religion, politicians and others are not ashamed of any cruelty. The may even slit wrists of pregnant teens. They are unanimous in attacking women. .the are concerned with their proffits only- may be with questionable means. The vested interests have made effective the parliament and other constitutional forums and people have no remedy against tyranny.

The author has made a brilliant fantasy of future international alliance. among America, China and Europe who come to an understanding and form a world army. The new world order is based on the notion that all religions have concept of one god and there are many similarities. There were no more wars. So the Army was deployed on routine tasks and fire fighting etc. The author has described in detail the routine functions carried out by the world army. He had nothing else to do as he was poor. So he had to enlist. He attended Boot camp. He describes how he was trained though the training was not much useful. No guns were provided. He learned shooting. After some training he was issued a uniform, a small pay check, and a bed to sleep in. He states that fifty percent of the Army of the World is for show. to afford higher learning. Boot camp was a breeze. They taught us how to shoot and how to march. This seemed pointless also, being as most of us were not officially issued a gun and there were no more wars to march to, but after three weeks I had a uniform, a small pay check, and a bed to sleep in. .

The narration by the author of future world simply proves the old saying that History repeats itself. The three future world powers- namely, America, China and Europe come to an understanding and form World Army. All those who retain their distinct identity and culture are terrorists The author is selected to combat the terrorists by joining the “Patriot” division of the Army of the World.
He had not been outside America before joining 'patriot'. He was deployed somewhere in China near what was once India. The patriots were taught that the 'terrorists' hated freedom and the new world order.
The author.participated in act of violence against the terrorists and the people supposed to shelter them. He portrays a good wordy picture of what the 'patriots' do to the supposed supporters and helpers of the 'terrorists'.. The 'patriots' burn the farm produce and shelter of the innocent people supposed to be sheltering the 'terrorists'.

The author soon realized that the entire notion of world army, world peace and hatred against 'traitors' was evil. He began feeling sympathetic towards the innocent people maintaining their distinct culture, religious practices and freedom. It was no sense imposing the so called 'freedom' and 'peace' on the people outside the gropup of new alignment of America, China and Europe.
myself in a deep dreamless sleep.
One day the author ran away, threw away his uniform. He arrives at a village. He sees the beauty of forest, environment and has sympathy with people said to be 'traitors' and 'terrorists'. He even makes up his mind to fight the so called world army.
In fact, his fantasy is visualization of scenario after World War II when the victor nations divided the spoils and justified all their actions in name of Peace. The narration by the author is very apt. He has well described the army routine in peace time.
