Acceptable Things

Night Falls,
A welcome curtain of cool darkness,
on a blistering day.
Feet slap the sidewalks,
hurrying, scurrying, scattering,
in all directions at once,
a great army,
in confusing retreat.
Many voices rise in waves,
roll like thunder,
indistinguishable,
in the great exodus.
Minds, cloudy as smoke filled rooms,
aim countless vehicles, in countless directions,
all hurrying, racing,
mindlessly belching noxious fumes,
into already heavy, contaminated air.
Finally arriving,
to the destination; Home.
A collection of things,
comfortable things, consoling things,
entertaining things, practical things,
pretty things, consumer things,
contaminating things,
but acceptable things,
contaminating minds,
producing; docile smiles,
mindless faces,
consumers consumed,
by their own productions.
