TABLE FOR ONE

Elegantly dressed and perfectly groomed,
she was a vision of every man's dream.
Strange that she had no one beside her,
yet some things are not what they seem.

Not an eyebrow was raised in the room
as she was escorted to a table for one,
where she could look out at the ocean,
sit and watch for the setting of the sun.

Melancholy music drifted though cool air
and she silently watched the waves roll in.
No stranger was she to being here alone,
for she would come back again and again.

The ring on her finger has told the true tale
of a love gone until war was over and done;
until her sailor was again back in her arms,
she would be content with a table for one.
