After I was diagnosed with glaucoma, a comforting voice spoke to me and told me to "see".

As I walked teary-eyed and sadly in despair
An unmistakable voice beckoned; I knew not where.
The words were comforting, ever so consoling
As I lamented the loss of a sense so revealing.

The loss of sight is so central I feared
Without it, it’s difficult to tell far from near
To the untrained person, that is to say
I lamented the loss as I walked on my way.

The voice which I found pleasurable indeed
Uttered words which my heart, soul did “feed”
It came from above and the words so received
“Fear not my child, do not be deceived.”

The voice which I so wanted to hear more
Reminded me to look beyond closed doors.
“Your heart pierces through darkness, sees light
You need not lament the loss of your sight.

The goodness and beauty that we all do possess
Will always be yours, along with enduring happiness.
So fear not in the loss of your sight
But rejoice as one who walks in the Light.”

I walked ever so vigorously and to my surprise
I saw the beauty within, without the use of my eyes
For I heard and experienced the most beautiful thing
The sweetest message of all, is indeed a blessing.
