the first date
My first blind date since I graduated.
Smitten at once, I'm infatuated.
Sucker for bizarre laughs, or passive quirks.
Who am I to judge with my goofy smirks.

She cast me into an incantation.
Sparks start desire at the conjuration.
Seen you standing in the nine-or-less aisle.
Quick wink and a kiss flew behind the smile.

I asked you out, a nice dinner for two.
Italian or sushi, southern bar-b-que?
You picked where to eat; so I picked the time.
Things fell into place, so close to sublime.

Watched you approach the table where I sit.
Late, but worth the wait cause my heart just quit.
Wonder what you're thinking, yet all the while.
Aglow with delight shines behind the smile.

Who would have thought that love could find my heart.
Without any strings attached to her cart.
Must be living right or someone's not finished.
My feelings were worn out and diminished.

I had a great time, not sure what she thinks?
Going home now listening to the Kinks.
This story ends fine because of her style.
The mystery that plays behind the smile.
