Old man faces the unknown with his thoughts
The old man's thoughts, remembering.
The sun warm on his face
Coldness from his body, trembling.
Yesterday not so long ago.

Youth they called it then,
with no thoughts of tomorrow.
Where he was or where he’d been,
wasn’t tomorrow so far away?

The plans he made, the future,
bright as the shining stars.
Forever, forever, he was so sure,
looking ahead, always ahead.

When it came late that afternoon,
fast the cold wind chilling him.
It had gone by oh too soon,
where was the warmth he asked, now?

Then, the old man smiled, remembering.
It was there in his aging heart.
The yesterdays, with friends gathering,
to warm him with their memories.

Warmth again to the old man came.
Light shining ever so brightly.
Softly, so softly, calling his name.
Come home old friend, come home.
