Truth (or the lack thereof) in relationships
Whenever I look back on
Us, and I mean that in the basest of terms,
I don’t remember ever looking deeply into your eyes
Even when we were having a simple conversation
We were not eyeball to eyeball
Why was that?
What were you hiding?
The truth about your soul
Or lack thereof?
That was a window you never opened up to me
We have been as close as two humans can physically be
But we never made a deep soul’s connection
Why was that?
What were you afraid of?
Me catching on to you quicker that I did?
Me cutting your little game off at the knees?
I should have demanded that you look me in the eye
I should have shoved that window up when I saw all the smoke
But I ignored it and got burned
Because I didn’t look hard enough or at all, whichever
Next time I’ll know to study the eyes
To know the soul
