ONLY WORDS

You tell me you love me and things will work out.
Next thing I know you're turning the words about.
You say things will get better, that I've got to see,
for they are just words, and I sure have my doubt.

I believed and I listened to each word you spoke,
I lived in a dream world and I'm darn near broke.
It really doesn't matter what you tell me anymore,
I'm hurt and I am angry, it's a fool you take me for.

Only words. That's all they've ever been to you.
I'd have to be near blind if someday I couldn't see
that you don't mean what you say, you don't say
what you mean, leave me alone, i need to be free.

I wanted to believe all those nice things you said
but actions speak louder than words, you know.
The future that you had promised never came to be,
It was just all about the money and I'm out of dough.

There comes a day of reckoning and you will see
I have figured out a way to turn the tables on you.
I will help you pack your bags and open the door
and I can also utter words that are not really true.

"I love you, I will miss you, I will write every day"
These are only words, so believe them if you can.
"Things will be fine and we can work it out, I know"
Will you believe what I say, you fast-talking man?

After all is said and done - they are ONLY WORDS...
