TAKEN FOR GRANTED
This came in an e-mail, and I loved it so much I had to share
Life offers no guarantees, no estimate of time
that we will have to heal, to forget or forgive.
Resentment and bitterness cloud our minds,
eroding any possibility of a better way to live.

We have taken for granted the sacrifice given
by those who volunteer, our country to serve.
We have taken for granted our freedom, and
somehow I think we must have a lot of nerve.

We are involved in our own lives, everyday
happenings and don't have time to spare.
Tomorrow is another day, perhaps by then
we can thank our troops and show we care.

We shield ourselves from the destruction
of families left behind to mourn alone.
We have taken for granted the promise
that sons and daughters will come home.

We sit back, content with what we have.
We don't realize that it may all be lost.
"We are a strong, beautiful country and
certainly freedom comes without cost."

Should tomorrow dawn with a darker sky
and what we assume will always be there
is gone, will we find the courage to go on?
Before it is too late, handle life with prayer.
