Imagination can sometimes trick us, especially in the dark. Simple poem.
The sounds of darkness set on me-
By wind and rain and crash of sea.

They wake me from my deepest sleep
And steal my dreams away to keep.

My windows rattle and floorboards creak
And in all the bewailing I cannot speak.

The Night- her secrets she will confess
And springs them upon the emptiness.

For frozen is what I now become
No feeling in me, all is numb.

My eyes are wide despite the gloom-
Searching hard around my room.

But no source of noise can I see
When imagination is tricking me.

Try as I will I’ll cease to find
Silly noises composed by my mind.

And so I’ll sit and wait to hear-
Sweet silence ringing in my ear.

And once it comes I’ll lay once more,
The quiet broken by just a snore.
