A CHEATING HEART

'Tis said that love should last forever
and no matter what, you try to hold on.
My mother said "You must stay together
for forever all alone is much too long".

Now I know that she stood by her man
in spite of his malady of a cheating heart
but I couldn't, shouldn't and wouldn't stay
in a marriage that simply tore me apart.

The nights have been long and so lonely
but peace has finally seen it's way through.
Infidelity has broken up so many homes
when the love once there becomes untrue.

A cheating heart does not have a reason;
a conscience is missing from its soul.
To lure and possess brings unhappiness
when the new heartbreak is its only goal.

No wet tears on my pillow this morning,
another night has passed, once again.
I still nourish the hope that one day I find
that better days are just about to begin.
