A humorous poem on my husband's view of love and giving flowers
Silly Cupid
by Cheryl Campbell

Some poems can be really cute
while others are rather stupid.
I've written both, but mostly the latter
and none until now involved Cupid.

Cupid is silly and full of mush;
my husband says this is true.
He says it's just complete nonsense
but one time he said, "I love you."

"Once is enough," he explained one night.
"I wouldn't have said it had it not been right."

"Silly holidays like valentine's day?
Well, those are made up so men have to pay"

He's made these comments quite a lot
in his mind he believes it's true
"Holidays don't really exist -
they were invented to take money from you!"

I must confess I have received
at least a flower or two.
But they didn't count as a mushy gift;
he'd lost an argument and he knew.

So maybe I should pick a fight -
one that I know I will win.
At least I'd get one here and there...
and then I could just pretend.

But really it would be a lie
if I didn't shed this light:
it's not the flowers that I want to hold
but the guy who comes home each night.
