A man in the rain receives a gift.
Frank was sitting on the sidewalk, on a box, in the rain.
Remembering the past, he was trying to stay sane.
No home, no job for the past four years.
He'd tried for help at first but no one ever hears.
It wasn't so bad, this street where he slept.
But the thing he hated most was no secrets could be kept.
The little girl and dad stepped out on the street.
She was only nine but she didn't miss a beat.
In the store, they found the groceries to fill their dinner plate.
She tugged her father's shirt and said, "wait, daddy, wait."
She ran down the aisle and came back with an umbrella
Her Dad looked up, she said "it's for that homeless fella."
He smiled at his girl as he gave the clerk the money.
He handed her the gift and said "that's very thoughtful, honey."
The rain soaked her clothes but she didn't really mind
Something told her it was worth it to be helpful, to be kind.
She walked up to the man but he hadn't seen her yet.
She tapped him on the shoulder, "looks like you're getting wet."
"I bought you something, well my Daddy actually paid."
"I'm hoping you will like it," the little girl said.
He smiled at the girl and said, "this will keep me dry."
She was looking right at him, he was trying not to cry.
For the first time in forever, someone looked him in the eyes.
No matter what his future, he'd remember 'till he dies.
