The overwhelming sensation that consumes all hope.
These things I have known,
What I've learned since birth,
These peculiar beliefs and seemingly childish hopes,
All are shaking,
foundations quaking,
threatening to topple,
to litter the streets in rubble.

With each blow a bullet
sinks in my heart,
Lodges it's poison in what I trust
and lays waste to ideals I cherish.

My base is in ruins,
and without support
I crumble.
I fall to the ground,
a statue shattered,
it's bones snapped by a force far stronger than any army:
Doubt.

The smoke that creeps under a closed door,
the snake concealed in tall grass,
it isn't there
until it's everywhere.
And when it's everywhere,
is there anywhere to go?
