A rhyming poem about the universal desire for happiness.
                            THE BIRD OF JOY

                        by Wylie Reed Richardson

          While we live out our lives with care and fuss
          The Bird of Joy flies in the sky, so far above us.
          We humans know of sadness, worry, and fear;
          The Bird of Joy, however, has never shed a tear.

          If the Bird swooped down, and landed on your windowsill
          Would you stop what you were doing, and let yourself be still?

          As the Bird took flight again, into the night sky
          Would you dare to ride it, so that you too could fly?
          Would you grip the Bird's wing with your hand
          As it soars above the ocean, and the land?

          The Bird of Joy never stays with us for long
          For fleeting moments only, can we bask in it's song.
          But how wonderful, how glorious it feels
          To ride atop the Bird, 'til your head reels!
