You cannot put a price on love. Grandparents are so special!
Grandmother’s Quilt
My grandmother’s handmade quilt lies on my bed.
It was a personal gift made just for me.
It showed the sweet love we shared and left unsaid.

She worked long hours in her small home, so carefree,
Picking out the fabrics and threads that would match,
And using an old lamp for her work to see.

She guided the scissors to cut a large batch
Of squares and triangles that she would combine.
And hour after hour, her goal she did dispatch.

She sent it in a box that had extra twine
Along with it was a proud note that I read
“Here is a quilt for my little valentine.”

She died the next year when the flu had spread
But I have her close to me with the quilt on my bed.

This is a Terza Rima Sonnet poem that uses 11 syllables in each line. The rhyme scheme is aba, bcb, cdc, ded, and ee for this form. There is a Terza Rima form that has a rhyme scheme of aba, bcb, cdc, and dd.
I felt that the final line, that uses 13 syllables was appropriate.
