I'm talentless and overwhelmed.
I dance upon teeth.

As my steps graze so lightly those slumbering lips.
I feel the breeze of an unfulfilled promise.
A promise I made to myself some time ago.
My footfalls are made uneven, I stumble and wake it.
The beast underfoot sleeps no more.

It does not consume, nor bite, nor does it snarl.
It whispers sweet poison into the night.
It speaks like a gentleman courting a lady.
It tells me things I wish not to hear.

For this is a beast, but a civilized one.
Its hunt is not chasing and reaching for me.
It stalks its prey through the scent of their dreams.
It infuses their desire with primal fear.

The beast wears my pelt before I am dead.
The beast wears my scalp upon its own head.
The words that it hisses sink into my spirit.
The fear in me rises until I only hear it.

When the cost of failure is a fate worse than death
An unremarkable life of unremarkable days.
A middling fate and a useless self.
Such foul curse is my birthright in a world such as this.

A quiet sob escapes my lips.
I stare down into the final abyss.
The beast knows it has gotten its way.
I fall into its jaws willingly.

THE WORDS THERE HAVE ENDED BUT YOU ARE STILL HERE
THIS PROSE IS NOT PRETTY OR INSPIRED I FEAR

CAN YOU NAME THE RHYMES IN WHICH YOU SPEAK?
CAN YOU NAME THE NAME OF YOUR LINGUISTIC TECHNIQUE?

A FLIMSY CROWN ON A RUSTED THRONE
A FALSE QUEEN IN FALSE CASTLE COMPLETELY ALONE

YOU WRITE FROM THE HEART BUT YOUR MIND IS A SHAM
FOR THE FALL I AM WAITING

I AM,

I AM,

I AM.
