When I found my voice, they blamed me and my silence

The Abuse

03/15/23

I did not owe him anything,

yet my hands shook when he demanded payment;

My voice escaped me, compliance smothered my fire.

I have paid debt with grief many times.

I did not belong to him,

yet I laid still as he feasted with entitlement.

I feared making too much noise,

they wouldn't listen anyway.

Sometimes my hands still shake.
