A modest poem, with references to God, about the simple act of planting a garden.
         About 135 words
Five 4-line verses in Iambic Tetramater --- AABB

AUTHOR's NOTE: The word 'ope' is an archaic verb used only by really odd poets who love using forgotten words. Originally, this was the verb and 'open' was an adjective which described the state of a door which had been oped.

To Plant A Garden

To plant a garden is to pray
to God for beauty and a way
to share His love and special care,
and God, we know, hears ev'ry prayer.

Who blesses us with seeds to plant?
Who gentle rain from clouds decants?
Who draws the hidden life from seeds,
as blessed with work, we pull the weeds?

To plant a garden is to show
our faith in He who doth bestow
upon us life, and gives us hope
that blossoms from the seeds will ope.

If God so blesses flower seeds,
how God must bless our loving deeds!
If hands may guide a flow'r to bloom,
might hearts guide souls to light from gloom?

If God grants us the pow'r to bring
to earth His flowers in the spring,
What pow'r to heal our brothers' pain
would God our hearts empow'r to rain?
