He'd show a coin held in his hand then make it disappear.
Remember our old Uncle Joe
who looked just like a bear?
He always had that gusty laugh,
the one we loved to hear.

And he would always play that trick
that always made us cheer.
He’d show a coin held in his hand
then make it disappear.

And then he’d take that magic coin
and wave it here and there,
then reach around our behind your head
and pull it from your ear.

That was so very long ago;
those days far in the rear.
But still when I remember them,
they often bring a tear.

So every now and then, you know,
at least once every year,
I try that trick for my own kids,
the ones that I hold dear.

But I am not like Uncle Joe.
I have to make that clear.
No, I am no magician and
look nothing like a bear.

And I can’t do that trick like him.
I’m not too good, I fear.
But just hand me some money and
I’ll make it disappear.
