What are you thankful for? 1st Place, 2023 Thankful Poetry Contest
Thanksgiving Day

Today our minds recall the beginning, our hearts full of thankfulness,

Honoring our forefathers in prayer, for we are so blessed.

Aware that we live as we do, because of their sacrifice,

Nearer we are to them, knowing some day we may pay the price

Keeping gratitude and love in the fore of our minds,

Surely one day, we’ll be thought of in kind.

Going around the room now, hugging everyone I can,

I know one thing for sure, I am just a man.

Vowing that one day, the baton will be passed,

It’s just that time, seems to fly by so fast.

Needing only to connect with my sons, daughter, and wife,

Gladness fills my heart, for I have a wonderful life.

Doing whatever we can to share our joy and love,

Are we blessed, you bet! We never feel unloved.

Yet never, not once, do we doubt our blessings, from above.
