I know I still have much to learn.
Oh, we learn very early on
what is considered norm,
and then we learn to shun all those
who don’t seem to conform.

That weird kid in the second grade
who never combed his hair?
We never played with him at all,
although that wasn’t fair.

That old quote tells you not to judge,
just looking at a book.
There may be much more hiding there
than you’ll see at first look.

So now that kid’s a millionaire;
a tech expert I hear.
He still has that unruly mop
but no one seems to care.

Well, now I know to take my time.
Conclusions should come slow.
Not everything’s as it appears.
And, hey, you never know.

An open mind’s a special prize
that one must surely seek.
For those who judge without a thought
will end up as the weak.

I know I still have much to learn
for I have been fooled too.
I’m glad I stayed to know you more.
Yeah, I was fooled by you.

And I am lucky, yes I am,
that you were wise to see
beyond the surface I display
to find the inner me.
